In an unexpected turn of weather patterns, West Bengal is experiencing an unusual surge in temperatures, leading to an absence of cold in several regions. The capital city, Kolkata, has witnessed a significant reduction in cold as the minimum temperature soared to 17.6 degrees Celsius, marking a four-degree increase from the normal range.
The Meteorological Department issued a statement on Wednesday, highlighting the substantial impact on the daily experience as the absence of cold persists throughout the day.
Apart from Kolkata, the decline in cold is evident in various districts including Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, and Murshidabad.
However, certain northern regions such as Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong continue to grapple with temperatures below or around 10 degrees Celsius, resulting in an intense cold wave. The Meteorological Department anticipates a marginal drop in temperature next week, though a substantial decrease is not expected.
